There are less expensive solutions out there, as well as more costly ones, but if you want the shortest route between you and playing stored and streamed music from Roon, I recommend buying a Nucleus. That’s pretty much my review of the Roon Nucleus Plus.

If you are looking for a plug and play Roon server solution that’s nicely made, good looking, and price falls in line after these considerations, a Roon Nucleus is for you. It also allows for the use of the latest technology filtering which may not be implemented in the Linn architecture. Part of the reason I'm interested in using it is that we can upsample outside of the Linn DAC, this in principle could reduce any noise created on in the DAC due to upsample processing. I can now select the songcast interface from within HDPlayer.and I get music out when I hit play. I'd need to do some testing on how the hell I made it work, it might just be as simple as turned on songcast to the DS before you open HDplayer. However in trying it I uninstalled HD Player and reinstalled it (possibly while songcast was turned on and casting to the DS). I was looking at Virtual Audio Cable to see if that could reroute but it didn't work. Maybe if I have conventional analog pre-amps I might stick with it a bit longer. For us to then process that stream through back through Linn ADCs and DACs creates a convoluted signal path to say the least.

Think of it as a very powerful software replacement for the crappy DAC in the PC.
#DAC FOR ROON AND HQPLAYER PC#
HQPlayer requires a PC to be running and become an additional pre-amp source. HQPlayer seems to be a nifty tool but we in the Linn world trust Linn to have done all this work for us and from what I could get working Linn's results are better. There doesn't seem to be a way in Songcast set the source stream to WASPAI or ASIO for it to then forward it onto a streamer.
#DAC FOR ROON AND HQPLAYER WINDOWS#
The windows version of HQPlayer squirts it's streams into a dedicated WASAPI or ASIO channel so the music stream isn't interrupted by the various bings and bongs you get using a computer. Songcast uses a fully mixed source from windows and punts it into a streamer. I've tried but can't seem to make it work Has anyone had any success with getting HQPlayer to work with songcast?
